Anglican-Orthodox Dialogue:

Pictured (L-R) are: Fr. Timothy Matkin, Fr. Ron Drummond, Metropolitan Jonah (OCA), Fr. Christopher Cantrell, Bishop Jack Iker, Fr. Chuck Hough, Fr. Joseph Fester (OCA), and Fr. John Jordan.

Local meeting to be followed by national conference:

The dialogue committee for our diocese and the Orthodox Church in America’s Diocese of the South met Friday, April 9, in the library of St. Vincent's Cathedral School in Bedford.

It was agreed to hold a joint clergy conference sometime in the fall, focusing on theological developments in the Western Church compared with those that took place in the Eastern Church prior to the great division that was formalized in 1054. The group also discussed how to involve laity in our dialogue, and some interest was expressed in forming a chapter of the Fellowship of St. Alban and St. Sergius in order to facilitate this.

The first meeting of the national dialogue group between the ACNA and the OCA will be held in Dallas on April 22 and 23. Our diocese will be represented by Dean Ryan Reed of St. Vincent's Cathedral.

  1. It's encouraging to see the outworking of the conference still going strong. May it continue.

  2. It would be incredible to be part of that generation that brings Anglo-Catholicism/Western Orthodoxy into the fold of the Holy Orthodox church. The is one of the main focuses of my prayers.

  3. Father Carlos- Thanks for this post. Of course you do know that both the Antiochians and ROCOR have Western Rite parishes? In fact there are 3 in Florida and 1 in formation under Metropolitan Philip and 1 community under Metropolitan Hilarion.
I left a thank you post over on Philorthodox if it gets approved. I'd love to continue discussing the prospects of an Anglican Rite or Use coming from ACNA into the OCA. "A lot of details to work out"(Star Trek Enterprise, Season4 'Terra Prime'). I'll be in touch.

  4. Matthew,

I know about the western rite vicariate, I have kept a close eye on the movement for some time. I am very pleased by some of the things I see going on it. At the same time I have a few concerns regarding it also. The greatest of these is the less than enthusiastic embrace of the western rite by the Orthodox church as a whole.

Moreover, in discussions I have has with several eastern rite priests, they have painted the wesetern rite as a temporary accomodation to a people who are becoming Orthodox.

It seems to me that it would be very different if one or more diocese of Anglo-catholics came in as the expression of western rite Orthodoxy. That has been my hope up to now.

  5. Yes, I heard that also, back in the 70's & 80's. I think they get that in seminary from old priests and monks who don't know any better. Her is something new I just learned of today.
